Lol, this whole thing is ridiculous.
Members ask for minor leaguers to be blind bidding, you put up a vote for blind bidding and the majority pushing for it revolt because the blind bidding is further reaching than they'd like.
I give up. Do whatever the Blank you want.

Me coming back to this thread after being gone for a couple of hours: i.imgur.com/8RGeRbK.gifvFor real though, let's all take some time and calm down haha. There is no reason to get all up in arms about this. I definitely prefer the hidden bidding and think Mat's suggestion of running the FA bids once a week could work. However, the problem is that this means ALL FA signings are run once a week. In other words, say I sign a MLB FA and the bidding goes final on Monday night and we process FA signings on Fantrax each Sunday. I'd have to wait until the next Sunday (when FA signings process) to pickup that FA player I signed on Fantrax. See what I mean? Personally, I don't see a huge issue with just doing minors hidden bidding like we discussed and processing FA signings 2 or 3 times a week, BUT excluding July 2 guys until August 1 (or something like that). It should be very easy to implement and would help alleviate the concerns of most of the teams in here voting no. However, it would also improve on the problem with minors bidding that currently exists. Maybe I'm missing something, but that seems like a pretty great compromise. Thoughts?

I totally see a need to benefit the teams who put in the work researching in some capacity, but I think that benefit comes from being better able to accurately judge how much of an impact a prospect will have, and prevent overspending on an overhyped dud. those of us who piggy back may end up paying much more than is necessary (or logical) if we solely rely on input from others.
in real life professional sports, teams don't really have an opportunity to bid on a player and win the rights to him before other teams have a chance to bid. the players agent, if the player is any good, would shop around, market his ability, listen to multiple offers, etc.
I don't personally care much, but I've never really enjoyed silent bidding, even for silent auctions at school. it just seems like a way to benefit the person who spends the most amount of time on fantasy baseball, instead of the person who makes the BEST DECISIONS with his or her team. I had a friend who would wake himself up at 3am to abuse a waiver wire system in one of his leagues. they didnt have WW priority so he would just snag all the best players that were dropped. I realize this isn't close to the same scenario. I only mention it as a caution to avoid benefitting the person who puts in the most work (not that benefitting that person is a BAD thing at all, just that we shouldn't be going too far in that direction because we all have jobs and families and that would help prevent burnout), because (at least for me) this isn't a way to spend many many hours, but instead a way to test my knowledge of base all against 19 other intelligent baseball fans with a different idea of how to craft a winner. we do need to find a to incentivize people to WANT to start the bids, though.
either way, if we have a two day or three day window, I'd prefer to not have thenough big weekend be on July 2nd. because, for example this year, I'm camping until July 6th, and won't have access to a computer or the internet (and I imagine because it's a federal holiday many people have similar circumstances, and even if they have internet, do we really want people having to check their phones on vacation?). does that mean I'm just unable to participate in the bidding this year on those players? with the big name prospects the auction goes for much longer than 2 days, so I'll be able to get back in time for most if not all the big name guys..
anyway, just my two cents

Adding a grace period to the international FAs works. Make that part of the rule change.

In a league that permits 800 minor league players, plus another 800 on MLB and reserve rosters, we might have it covered.
Given the huge failure rate, when we consider all the guys playing loA baseball vs the number who actually have impact MLB careers, is this really necessay?
From personal experince, I picked Eloy Jimenez in the initial draft, pick 7.06... now he is one of the best prospects in baseball. Am I that brilliant, or are teenaged prospects so unpredictable that ratings can wildly swing from year to year.. he was pick 127 a year ago...
The vote will be the vote, I voted no.. I dont see any rational arguement that supports this level of complexity..

I'm with DodgersGM on this one. The top 600+ minor league players are likely rostered in this league. I'm not completely against a rule change and I'm also in favor of minimizing league upkeep. I just think it's just as important to give those who have less time an opportunity to bid and also a reason to stay active on the board. And yes, I feel your pain when you research someone and place a bid, then out of nowhere comes a bid. I just view the league as more a pay-to-play league and less a money league.
I voted no.

With 9 owners voting no, having a 60% approval for this suggestion is now impossible, so this thread has been closed.
