11. If the player is subsequently signed by another team the Waiving team's penalty is reduced by the (average annual) value of the new contract. Years are not taken into account and have no effect on the salary owed. The deduction of salary relates to the next contract only; there will be only one reduction per waived contract. There is no deduction in waived salary if the player is reacquired by the team that waived him.
Based on the above rule, a credit of $400k should be applied to Diamondbacks expenditures for 2018 due to the Indians signing of Joe Mauer at $400k AAV.
