Garret Cleavinger was signed for $400k. Orioles no longer responsible for Retained contract. Paul dejong signed for $400k. Orioles cap hit is reduced from $1M to $600k. The constitution reads, "11. If the player is subsequently signed by another team the Waiving team's penalty is reduced by the (average annual) value of the new contract. Years are not taken into account and have no effect on the salary owed. The deduction of salary relates to the next contract only; there will be only one reduction per waived contract. There is no deduction in waived salary if the player is reacquired by the team that waived him." I read this to mean that it's a one-time impact to this year's cap based on the AAV. The number of years is not taken into account. Therefore, it's a one time adjustment of $400k for 2024 but the remaining cap hits for Cleavinger in 2025 to 2029 remain. The Dejong cap hit will be reduced by $400k as per your post. |
