In our ongoing effort to minimize the tedious parts of this league (e.g. updating rosters, making transactions, etc.), Mat and I would like to move managing team rosters ENTIRELY over to Fantrax. In other words, teams would not be forced to update and keep track of their rosters on the forums any longer which would save each team a ton of time and minimize the annoying busy work. For this to work, it's imperative that each team understands what would be required to make this switch. Here are some bullet points that each owner needs to know before we make this switch:
- Teams would no longer be required to keep up with their roster on the forums. With Mat and I updating transactions on Fantrax, everything should be accurate there and it's really unnecessary to waste the time trying to keep the forums rosters updated
- While updating rosters on the forums would no longer be necessary, teams MUST still post their transactions. In fact, the only way this would work is if teams are extremely diligent about posting transactions AND posting detailed transactions. Here is an example of what I mean:
- Incorrect way to post a transaction: "The Astros move Lance McCullers to reserve roster. Chris Devenski promoted to active roster."
- CORRECT way to post a transaction: "The Astros move Lance McCullers - $3m (5 Yrs) (ARB(-) OPT(4) to the reserve roster, exercising his option for 2017. His options now become (3)*. The Astros promote Chris Devenski - $0.4m (6-Years) ARB('20-'22) OPT(3*) from the reserve roster to the active roster. His 2017 option has already been exercised."
In other words, transactions MUST be detailed and include salary information, options for that player, etc. The reason for this is because it could get very confusing to know something like if options have already been exercised when we see a transaction with no details. While it's kind of annoying to have to post all of these details, it's WAY easier and much less time consuming than having to post transactions AND update the forum rosters (and then update Fantrax).
- Minors rosters will probably need to continue to be managed on the forums. While Fantrax's player pool is very good and they're good about adding unlisted players we suggest, there are still some that are unlisted. As a result, I think it's a good idea to keep the minors rosters updated on teams' current roster pages. Since minors rosters hardly change, that shouldn't be difficult.
- I don't necessarily like to add fines or punishments, but we may need to add something to ensure teams are keeping up with transactions since it's so important if we move away from updating rosters on forums. If an owner slacks on posting his transactions, everything will get screwed up
All in all, I think making this change will save owners a TON of time AND help us get closer to streamlining things(moving as much as possible over to Fantrax). This should also help us slowly move over to managing things like updating trade blocks and whatnot on Fantrax.
Anyways, again, for this to work, every owner needs to understand what I said about transactions needing to be detailed and updated on time. Please share your thoughts about this, and let us know if you like the idea!
