Atlanta sends Chris Sale (P-BOS) $6m (3 Yr) ARB (-) OPT(-) And Robbie Ray (P-ARI) $1m (3 Yr) ARB(-) OPT(-) For minors Clint Frazier OF NYY Ozzie Albies 2B ATL And Carson Kelly, C, STL This trade is currently under review for being 'Grossly disproportionate'. I have received more than the 3 required objections necessary for a trade to be reviewed. Here is the section in the constitutionregarding trade reviews: B. OBJECTIONABLE TRADES AND COLLUSION: 1. Trade Objection: it is asked that you reserve objections for those trades that seem to involve Collusion or are Grossly disproportionate. 2. Claims of possible Collusion will addressed by the league as a whole in a calm and patient manner, as they are severe in nature and must be addressed for the league to move on. There will be positions made on either side, and the league will vote on whether the teams involved should remain in the league if it is agreed that Collusion likely took place by 60% of the voters (all GMs except those accused). 3. As far as the Objectionable trade is concerned, 3 complaints about a trade received by the League Commissioners within 72 hours, a poll will be posted. The poll will last 72 hours. A minimum of 12 "No - the Trade should not be allowed" votes must be received for the trade to be vetoed. 4. Although some trades may not be severe enough to be seen as objectionable, GMs may not agree that there was fair value in a trade. In such cases, if the GM wants to let that owner know, the GM is encouraged to send a private message to that GM, voicing opinion and reason in a respectful manner. This has a two-fold benefit: it keeps things private and doesn't embarrass the GM involved, and it also allows GMs to know how other GMs feel about their deal (something they can learn from in some occasions). 5. Trade Veto Procedure has been established for the league for the 2017 season and beyond as follows:
Step 1: Commissioner gets 3 complaints about a trade. Step 2: Commissioner makes the league aware of this. Step 3: The teams involved in the trade have 72 Hours to make their case. If nothing is posted, it will be assumed that they have nothing to add. Step 4: A Vote takes place on whether to approve of the trade or not.12 votes against are required to Veto a trade. **No team that isn't involved in the trade may make comments about the validity of the deal. They are simply to vote yes or no. Per the amendment added this past season, the trade veto process will go EXACTLY as listed above (The parts in bold). The Giants and Braves will have 72 hours to state their case for why the trade is not 'grossly disproportionate'. To make your case, please just post a reply to this thread. Once the 2 teams have stated their case OR 72 hours has passed, a poll will be posted to decide if the trade passes or not. Please remember that ONLY the 2 teams involved in the trade will be commenting on the trade. If you are not the Giants or Braves, do NOT post anything with your opinions or views on the trade. You will have the opportunity to vote once they have stated their cases. If anyone has any questions, let me know!

Greetings,
I feel this trade is balanced sufficiently.
I am trading away Chris Sale and Robbie Ray. Both have 3 year contacts. I see Chris Sale as the number one pitcher in baseball over the next three years. Any pitcher ranked around his slot on dynasty lists are going to be pitching on the wrong side of 30 next year (Kershaw, Scherzer, Kluber). Anyone else close to him has a few concerns over injury (Bumgardner, Strasburg, DeGrom). For SPs, he’s a clear Dynasty number one for me.
I’m also in love with Robbie Ray. He’s going into his prime at 26. He has elite starting pitcher strike out rates and peripherals trending in the positive direction. He’s projected to have a WAR which would place him in the top 10 pitchers for the year, but again with a lot less risk than all the 30somethings that fill out the rest of the top pitching lists. I would challenge someone to find a better free agent contract than his, which nets only one million a year for three years. That’s a steal.
All in all, this end of the trade gains 2 elite pitchers for a three year window to compete at a total of $7mil a year. In many leagues, a package like this could not be found.
I wouldn’t sell a package like this cheaply or lightly. I was asking for future in exchange for them. I felt I got a pretty nice return. Not many deals could change the fate of a franchise for the next few years like mine could. I wanted legit pieces. I have a prospect addiction and might accept a package of 19 year old low minors upside plays for a lot of deals. But, not for this caliber of SPs.
Ozzie Albies exceeded rookie limits but would probably be a top 10 prospect if he retained it. I have come concerns over his size, but I hope his hit tool plays enough to keep him a steady above average regular over the course of his contact. Clint Frazier is also a very nice prospect, again moving himself off prospect lists by exceeding rookie limits. Unlike Albies, some playing time concerns come with Frazier due to the loaded Yankee outfield and the Yankees probably contention this season.
This was the type of return I hoped for. I still didn’t feel like it was quite enough. As a Cardinal fan and catching prospect skeptic, I have a little different opinion of Carson Kelly than many prospect lists. I don’t feel Fantasy catchers have as much value as other positions, first of all. Secondly, Kelly was a defense first catcher for his entire minor league career until the last levels and questions about his hit tool remain. Additionally, he has pretty much an ISO projection around .100. Fantasy wise, he’s a position holder. In real life, he’s even less desirable as he’s blocked by a catcher who gets publicly mad at his coach anytime he gets a day off. The Giants also started the clock on Kelly. So, realistically, Kelly will not get starting catcher playing until his contract hits arbitration and has questionable offensive upside when he does. I saw Kelly’s addition as roster fulfillment for me and a throw in to balance.

In my opinion, albies is the best prospect at his position in the game, if you consider him a prospect still. Frazier is somewhat blocked for playing time, but has a hitter friendly ballpark once he gets his chance. Carson Kelly is polarizing. I happen to think he's one of the top 2 catching prospects around, with him and Mejia on the Indians being the top two in most lists. Some people view him as below average offensively. Either way, once he gets the starting position, his defense is good enough to keep him in that role, even if he's not buster posey.
Unfortunately the owner before me when I traded for Carson last season initiated his 1 minors contract before I traded for him, so he only has 6 years of control, and more realistically 3-4 years of Carson when he's the starter. But with albies and Frazier, if Atlanta wants, he can hold them off from promotion and have them for more than 7 years each, potentially an 8th each. That's pretty substantial for a rebuilding team to get the top 2b, a top 2 catching prospect, and an OF prospect with some pop.
Sale is Sale. One of the best. Ray was excellent last year. His year before? Near 5 ERA and went 8-15. I personally think he can be great again, but one year of production does not make a pitcher elite. Coaches have an offseason to scheme and plan for him now.

Thanks for taking the time to explain your thinking behind the trade fellas! I'll post a poll tomorrow morning so that we can vote on the trade and get it resolved as quickly as possible
