Hey guys, with our league's playoffs starting on Monday (less than a week away!), I wanted to remind everyone of how the playoffs work, as well as share information about playoff rosters. PLEASE READ through this to ensure you set your rosters correctly prior to each playoff round, as well as ensure you don't make any illegal moves that could cause you to lose your playoff matchup. If you have any questions, post them below!
PLAYOFFS & TEAM BONUSES
A. PLAYOFFS:
1. The playoffs will consist of 8 teams: the 4 divisional winners and 2 wild-cards per league.
1a. Each rd of the playoffs will be 1 week except for the FINALS which will be 2 weeks in length.
2. The playoffs will be separated by league, with the ALCS winner competing against the NLCS winner for the Field of Dreams championship.
3. Wild-card winners will be the two teams with the highest winning percentage in each league who did not win their divisions. They may both come from the same division.
4. There will also be a "Second Chance" playoffs which will consist of 8 teams, using solely the 8 next best records and tie-breakers listed below. This means that the 4 worst records in the league will not take part in either the playoffs or second chance playoffs.
5. Teams that make the playoffs (not the best of the rest playoffs) will receive bonuses that may be used toward their cap the following season.
6. All playoff teams (not the best of the rest playoffs) will get a $250,000 Cap bonus, and the two teams in the World series will get another $500,000. This makes the maximum season Salary Cap attainable $100,750,000.
7. If a team fails to meet the IP requirement (35 IP) during the playoffs it will lose all points from the round and be automatically eliminated.
8. FA signings are not permitted in the playoffs.
9. Reminder that all contract buyouts must be completed within 48 hrs of our World Series champion being crowned and must include the entire amount owed to the player.
B. TIEBREAKERS:
1. Breaking a tie between 2 teams for playoff berths will be done as follows:
a. If two teams are tied, heads up match-up will be the first tiebreaker. Add the match-ups together, if they played more than once, for a total winning pct. (adding 6-5-1 to 3-8-1 to get 9-13-2 and therefore 10-14 for a winning pct of .417 - ties counted as 1/2 loss and 1/2 win).
b. Next tiebreakers is If all the tied teams are in the same division, best winning percentage in that division.
c. Next is the winning percentage in that league (AL or NL)
d. Next, the Winning Percentage vs Team With Best Regular Season Record (excluding the tied teams).
e. If there is still a tie, then Winning Percentage vs Team With 2nd Best Regular Season Record. Then vs 3rd Best, and so on.
2. Breaking a tie between 3 o more teams for playoff berths will be done as follows:
a. Add the heads up matches together to determine best total winning percentage. If there are now only two tied teams, return to BREAKING A TIE BETWEEN TWO TEAMS.
b. Next is if all of the tied teams are in the same division, best winning percentage in that division.
c. Next is if any of the tied teams are in different divisions, best winning percentage in that league (AL or NL).
d. Next, Winning Percentage vs Team With Best Regular Season Record (excluding the tied teams). If there is still a tie, then Winning Percentage vs Team With 2nd Best Regular Season Record. Then vs 3rd Best, and so on.
3. Tiebreakers to decide playoff match-ups.
a. Head To Head Regular Season Winning Percentage
b. Regular Season Overall Winning Percentage
c. Regular Season League Winning Percentage
d. Regular Season Division Winning Percentage
C. PLAYOFF ROSTERS:
1. A team may designate any 27 players from its 40-man roster to its active roster each round.
2. Any lineup requests must be requested and posted before FANTRAX rosters lock on the first day of each round of the playoffs.
3. No promotions or demotions will be permitted unless a player on the majors roster is injured during the match-up. The injury must be universally understood as significant enough to prevent the player from finishing the round. Once the player is removed from the roster, he may not be added back to it in the same round.
4. If promoted or demoted:
a. A SP may only be replaced if the pitcher is going to miss a start(s). Therefore, you can not add a SP to make a start, unless you're losing a start due to injury.
b. Starters must be replaced by starters.
c. Relief pitchers must be replaced by relief pitchers.
d. Batters must be replaced by batters.
e. A relief pitcher may replace an injured starter in the event the team is having difficulty meeting the minimum IP.
5. Teams which have not been active for 30 consecutive days during the regular season will be banned from competing in the playoffs. Activity is defined as logging onto this board, adjusting your lineup on CBS, or posting a message there. Out of town announcements will be sufficient to mitigate this as long as they are up-to-date with the GM specifying when he will be returning.
6. In the event that there is a Game 163 to decide the final spots of the MLB playoffs, it will NOT be included in any playoff matchup. If necessary, both rosters will be made temporarily illegal so as not to include any additional scoring.
