RESERVE ROSTER
A. RESERVE ROSTER BASICS:
1. The reserve roster is comprised of 13 eligible players. In combination with the active 27-man roster, it constitutes the 40-man roster. It must finalized before the start of Opening Day. If not, then your team will not accumulate any points until finalized
2. As in MLB, the Reserves serve as a pool of players to draw from in case of injury or any other happening that would bring the majors roster below 27, or to improve your roster's performance.
B. OPTIONS
1. Major league players on the reserve roster are on "Optional assignments."
2. Majors batters with fewer than 1800AB when acquired as a free agent or within the initial draft will receive 4 options. Majors pitchers under both 750IP and 250 Games Pitched (GP) when acquired as a free agent or in the initial draft will receive 4 options.
3. Being over either threshold disallows a batter or pitcher from receiving options. One option is used for each season a player is placed on the reserve roster.
4. Options last for the entirety of the season in which they are used.
5. If a player with as much as or fewer than 1800AB/750IP/250GP is out of options once his last option has been used for the season, he must remain on the active roster.
6. A player who has more than 1800AB/750IP/250GP may not be demoted to the reserve roster due to what is termed, "Veteran's Consent." Rostered players who begin the season under the threshold, but pass it during the season may continue to be sent to the Reserve roster for the remainder of the season.
7. A newly acquired free agent who starts the season under the V.C. threshold but has surpassed it at the time of signing does not receive options and may not be sent down.
8. When placing a player on a Majors contract on the Reserve roster for the first time that season, he loses one of his Options. Be sure to note on your transaction page that an option was used and how many remain (2, 1 or 0). Also make sure it is noted on your roster page; use a * to signify that the players' options have already been reduced this season. Once demoted or promoted from the reserve roster, the player must remain on the active or reserve roster for 7 days.
For example, a player with 2 options remaining who has used his season's option would be listed as follows: OPT(2)*. This indicates that the player has 2 options remaining and that he is eligible to be on the Active or Reserve roster for the entirety of the current season.
9. If a player is out of options or ineligible to receive them denote it with a OPT(-).
10. Players who clear waivers or are released to free agency regain all 4 options if/when resigned by a new team, so long as they are at or still under the 1800AB/750IP/250GP.
11. Minors do not have options. They may be placed on the Reserve Roster using a $400,000 1-Minors OPT(-) ARB(*) contract. However, once placed on it, they may not be demoted to the minors. These players will receive options if assigned a Majors contracts the following off-season during the Year-Beginning Process.
