I know Rob's a big Mets fan, but I was wondering if anyone can make sense out of their gathering 2 of the worst Middle Infielders (defensively) in baseball? Cabrera and Walker were both atrocious defensively at their respective positions, and let's face it, Wright's not exactly in his prime. Mets pitching better be ready for some extended innings, because with that D in the infield and Cespedes in CF, this could get ugly.

The Mets defense is complete garbage.. Conforto is a below average defender in LF as well.

Yeah, I don't get it either Mat - it's why I have the Nats winning the NL East over the Mets. As filthy as that rotation is, I HATE the defense behind them.

Cabrera's defense was ok for the Rays last year - but that was on turf where the bounces are pretty true. He doesn't have a lot of range though.

Cabrera's defense was ok for the Rays last year - but that was on turf where the bounces are pretty true. He doesn't have a lot of range though. He was ranked 29th out of 30 starting SS. That's not ok. His range is horrible, and the UZR (-6) and UZR/150 (-10.6) show it. His overall fielding was -6.0 for 2015. What he does well is the simple plays, as in "hit it to me and I'll get it done", but anything else is by me. Between his lack of range and Walker's the Mets have a giant black hole up-the-middle. The Rays made out like bandits in swapping Miller in for Cabrera. I have an article coming out on DRaysBay about it today or tomorrow. Check it out!

The reasoning is that both are relatively cheap on short deals. Met's ownership does not like to spend money, and are weary of long term deals, that's why they let Murphy walk. They have some young middle infielders coming up that are known for their gloves, but can't hit. My guess is they will come in after the seventh with the lead. I am a big Mets fan, and I am not as optimistic as many seem to be.
