Hey guys, ive seen alot of transaction where people are promoting and demoting players before theyve been on the new roster for 8 days. Is this not a rule? on fantrax under the rules it says they have to be left there for 8 days before you an promote or demote them again.
But if its not an actual rule I'd like to know because I would be doing the same thing as everyone else. Since it is a big advantage to be able to move guys around so easily.
This is what i found under B. Options
8. When placing a player on a Majors contract on the Reserve roster for the first time that season, he loses one of his Options. Be sure to note on your transaction page that an option was used and how many remain (2, 1 or 0). Also make sure it is noted on your roster page; use a * to signify that the players' options have already been reduced this season. Once demoted or promoted from the reserve roster, the player must remain on the active or reserve roster for 8 days.

Sorry to clutter, but i figured itd be easier to discuss in a thread.
In the constituion, the rule is in THE MINORS, PROMOTION, ARBITRATION & AMATEUR DRAFTS under B. Promotions its number 5. It says 7 days, not 8.

5. Players promoted from the reserve roster to the active roster, or sent down from the reserve roster to the active roster must spend a minimum of 7 days on the roster they were promoted or demoted to. After the seventh day, they can be promoted or demoted again.

I'll admit I did it this morning. I demoted Trevor Story to bring back Mitch Haniger from the DL as I forgot David Phelps had options, but once I realized he did I brought Story back up and demoted Phelps. If there is a penalty for it, then I'll gladly take the penalty because I either 1) forgot or 2) wasn't aware. *I will note it was a difference in 3 hours of the transactions and no games/stats were affected.
But yeah, if there are others that are using it to their advantage then it needs to be brought up.
Thanks TJ

Obviously the penalty would be decided by the admins, but Im not sure if its necessary to go back and penalize since many have been doing it. But would need to be penalized from now on as it is something that can be taken advantage of.

Yeah I actually just did this. I didnt even realize it was a rule either. Ill take whatever punishment as well. After Trout got hurt I pretty much gave up this season anyways.

Guilty, Yanks...guess I need to read up on the rules, certainly not trying to pull a fast one on anyone. I am sure someone will notify when the punishment is decided.

Sorry, guys I've been really busy and have been kind of MIA. First, thanks for bringing this up TJ. As others have mentioned, I didn't even realize this was a rule until TJ asked about it recently. Based on the fact that everyone seems to have no idea this rule exists, I am fine with letting the violations slide (as long as no one else objects). In fact, I personally don't like the rule as is and would be open to revisiting it in the offseason. However, in the meantime, we do need to decide how to do handle this for the present season. What do yall think?

I'm fine either way! The rule does encourage more strategy since you have to look at matchups more if you have starters on your reserve as well but either way works for me.

Yeah, I felt bad posting on your transaction thread since I'm not an admin and new to the league, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Only reason I know this too is cause I'm new and read over the rules lately.

I agree with Ryan, I don't like the rule. But I also agree with TJ, it builds more strategy in the rule. My reason for not liking the rule is because there is no injury clause. The MLB rule for Minor League promotion has an injury clause. Most of the time when I violate this rule it is due to injury. I think it should be addressed in the offseason.

I guess I am one of the few who knew about the 7-day rule (though not sure if I violated it recently - I usually look to see who I can promote/demote according to the rule). I'll go along with what everyone else thinks. But there should be an exception for injuries if the rule is kept.

To be clear though, we are penalizing from now on?
